How long has your Etsy shop been open? I opened my shop at the end of May last year- a 30th birthday to challenge to share my love of gems with the world!
What do you like about selling on Etsy? What I love about selling on Etsy is being able to create the "custom" experience for my fans without the cost of custom pricing! At shows, I can only bring what I've already made, but through Etsy people can truly connect with and order the stone they were looking for and have it featured in almost any design! What's been your best Etsy experience? One of my best Etsy experiences was just recently- a husband snuck onto his wife's account and secretly ordered her a piece she has favourited. He was able to take the design she loved and add the personal touches to create a beautiful story to surprise her with. I'm so happy I was able to be a part of it Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your shop or yourself? Please, please, please make custom requests! It's all about connecting with the gem that's right for you!
Introduce Yourself: Hi, I'm Angel! I'm a recent transplant to Saskatoon from sunny Florida. I love crafting Japanese silk hair accessories, illustrating stories and generally creating new shiny things.
How did you get started? I became interested in kanzashi after reading articles about the art form in college. After living in Japan and visiting Kyoto, the heart of traditional Japan, my interest deepened and I started concentrating my efforts on developing my kanzashi making skills. Where can people find you online? My website: Appledainty.com What do you like about selling on Etsy? I like selling on Etsy because of the awesome community of sellers, and the wide audience that the site reaches. I love shopping on Etsy for the same reasons! Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your shop or yourself? I'm always looking to learn new skills and help people who want to learn more of their own. If you ever have any questions, let me know!
How did you get started? I actually started my business with a friend of mine, because I knew she had some experience on Etsy and I thought we'd make a great team. It was going good, but after a while she found it a bit too much, because she had just had her third baby. By this point I felt comfortable enough to do it on my own so I continued on. What do you like about selling on Etsy? I like selling on Etsy because of the community it creates. Also, I find it simple and very easy to buy and sell. What brought you to Etsy? I chose to build my shop through Etsy because I knew a few successful Etsy shop owners and I wanted that same success. What's been your best Etsy experience? My first couple of Etsy sales were from family members, so one of my favourite moments was when I got my first sale from someone that I didn't know! I always love hearing the 'cha-ching' sound of an order.
Introduce Yourself: Hi, I'm Tammy, and I live in Martensville, Sk with my husband and 2 children. What is the name of your shop? My Etsy shop "Ashryla" (pronounced ash-rye-la) is a combination of my kids' names. How long have you been open? I opened my shop about 5 years ago, but it has evolved a lot since then. I started out making some clothing and baby items, then eventually tried making a leather bag and I got hooked! How long have you been doing your craft and how did you get started? For the past 4 years, I've been making leather handbags, clutches, wallets, and accessories, all based on my own designs. I've been doing a lot of custom work lately, mainly consisting of matching clutch sets for bridal parties. I've been sewing and designing since I was a little girl, so this was a natural progression for me.
What do you like about selling on Etsy? As a mom, it's fantastic being able to set my own schedule and work around my family life. One of my favorite things about Etsy is that it's helped me connect with customers outside my local area. Also, the support that members shows each other is truly outstanding, and teams like this one really make me feel like part of a community.
Etsy has a ton of goodies for the crafty folk who want to do their own thing. These Tree of Life Necklace kits from MetalDesignz are great for you and a friend. If you'd rather string your own beads, try these tiny flower beads from Tooaquarius (that's me!) for a fun daisy chain. If doll house miniatures are more your thing... PrairieCrocusStudio has little dollies to wig and dress for your own castle. As a part of a May project to give Etsy Saskatchewan teamies a little promotion, I've put together a series of picks from a variety of team shops. Team leaders will share these on the team Facebook and Instagram accounts and we'd love if you share them, too! Have some cute picks you think would make a great post? Pass them along to [email protected] Because I did this whole project as a linear thing - one set at a time - I kept finding great pieces for a previous selection. So we have another fashion "look" I could totally go with. I'd start with this great top by 26Lentils and add a fun pair of earrings from PlayingItByEar. My poor phone would get a little spoiling with a cozy from lilyNSparrow. Pass them along to [email protected] I'm starting off my May Days with some jewellery related picks. Kunswerk makes great jewellery trees from strong wire. Use his trees for decor or to organize your growing collection of baubles. JunegrassJewelry makes a variety of mixed media jewellery like this fun tassel necklace. MyTrueLuminosity, who I had the lucky chance to meet at the Spring Pop Up in Saskatoon, makes Steampunk inspired jewellery with gears and crystals. These earrings are a neat mix of hardware and shiny. As a part of a May project to give Etsy Saskatchewan teamies a little promotion, I've put together a series of picks from a variety of team shops. Pass them along to [email protected] Introduce Yourself: Hello! My name is Wanda Fraser and I live in Regina Saskatchewan. My daughter Kyla and I are the creators of LaraBella Jewelry Design. We are a mother and daughter team who values artistic creativity and individuality. We strive to offer high quality unique products women will love to wear. Kyla leads a very busy life as a full time primary school teacher and a part time designer and creator with LaraBella. LaraBella is my full time job and I do it all: jewelry design and creation, photography, marketing, shipping, and administration. We both love what we do. Working out of a home studio we are always looking to offer the best in new artistic designs along with an exceptional customer experience. What is the name of your shop? We are called LaraBella Jewelry Design. About two years ago my daughter Kyla and I decided to open an online jewelry store on Etsy. We both agreed that we wanted a descriptive name, one that would clearly communicate the products we were selling. We also wanted the name to be meaningful by paying tribute to something or someone we hold dear. For weeks we exchanged ideas back and forth via email, phone calls and text. Kyla settled on the name Laurel, as in the laurel leaf. This leaf symbolizes many things: creative inspiration, eternal youth, immortality and victorious achievements just to name a few. I certainly loved the symbolism. I however, was hoping to use the name Sarah to pay homage to my grandmother who courageously uprooted her life (and family) from their home in Ireland in hopes to start a new and better life in Canada. And so we combined the names Laurel and Sarah to Lara. We then added the word Bella (which is Italian for beautiful) as homage to all women and to recognize that every woman possesses her own unique beauty. How long have you been doing your craft? After retiring from a communications role in the corporate world, I was looking for a way to leverage my life long passion of artistic creativity (such as photography and design) into a business. “LaraBella Jewelry Design” has allowed me to blend together my creative abilities and business skills into a labour of love. How did you get started? I took an early retirement in 2013 but knew I did not want to actually retire. My goal was to start my own business doing something I loved. Kyla suggested I look at opening a shop on Etsy and so it began. Together with Kyla, and a business plan in hand we took the leap. We opened our shop on October 13, 2014 with only 20 items on our virtual shelves. A little over a year later we have over 135 items and have successfully expanded our revenue stream to include selling at local markets. Our most recent event, the Holiday Bazaart at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, was one of the highlights of our first season.
What do you like about selling on Etsy? I believe Etsy is like no other e-commerce site on-line today. As a seller I feel that am part of a larger community with the ability to sell my products worldwide. I also feel that, as a seller, I am not alone within my selling community. The support one can get by joining any of the many Etsy seller teams is absolutely invaluable. Etsy itself supports me by offering a plethora of valuable learning tools, and with the many informative and helpful articles available on their site. I also enjoy the control I have when creating my personal storefront. The use of my own photography and graphics allows me to build my brand and show the world who I am as a seller. What brought you to Etsy? Etsy was a good fit for me. It allows sellers a more personal approach to selling online and it was relatively easy to get started. Etsy was fairly new to Canada when I first started building my business but it was definitely on the lips of everyone I knew. Without a doubt Etsy was where I wanted my online business to be. What's been your best Etsy experience? In September 2015 LaraBella Jewelry Design participated in the Etsy Made in Canada Event. I loved the opportunity to meet many of the other local sellers and to meet face to face with our customers. Knowing that this event was also happening on the same day in cities all across Canada gave me the feeling of being part of something big. It was a great feeling. Another great Etsy experience for me was when I made my first overseas sale. This sale was to a young lady on the other side of the globe (Hong Kong). Communicating in different languages (and different time zones) certainly had its challenges. This young lady has since become a repeat customer so I do believe we did all right! Is there anything else you would like to share with us about your shop or yourself? Personally I have always believed it’s important to give back to the community whenever possible. That’s why LaraBella is proud to sponsor ShelterBox Canada by donating 5% from the profit of each sale to this remarkable organization. ShelterBox Canada responds to disasters around the world and provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies to help families trying to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. If you would like to learn more about ShelterBox Canada we invite you to click on the following link: http://www.shelterboxcanada.org At LaraBella we know that life is about creating yourself. Let our unique line of jewelry reflect who you are.
